Our profile
The DBI Group is an independent group of companies organised by DVGW e.V. and deals with topics along the entire value chain from gas production, storage, transport/distribution through to the efficient and environmentally friendly use of renewable energy sources. DBI Gas- und Umwelttechnik GmbH, which emerged from the gas technology departments of the German Fuel Institute in 1991, combines both the development of new technologies for the utilisation of renewable gaseous energy sources and the introduction of innovative technologies into practice. As a research-intensive medium-sized company, the focus is on innovative engineering and services. The subsidiary, DBI – Gastechnologisches Institut gGmbH Freiberg, has been researching fundamental issues since 1997. In addition to research activities, further training programmes are offered and testing activities are carried out in the independent energy testing laboratory. Due to the group structure, the research results are quickly transferred to the service sector of the energy and gas industry.
The DBI Group has highly qualified employees, a modern infrastructure with outstanding laboratory technology and a corporate philosophy that is orientated towards innovative technologies, current R&D trends and compliance with research policy premises. Through the continuous development of the corporate strategy, the traditional research fields of gas production, gas storage, gas transport and gas applications have been steadily expanded to include innovative fields with high R&D dynamics and growing market potential.
The company specialises in the fields of energy, environmental and gas technology as well as renewable energy technologies with many years of relevant experience, particularly in classic engineering planning services and the testing and maintenance of systems and devices in accordance with regulations. As a pioneer in hydrogen research, the group of companies makes a significant contribution to innovative developments in the field of hydrogen. The DBI Group employs more than 150 people in Freiberg and Leipzig who are working to transform today’s natural gas supply into a CO2-free or CO2-neutral energy system using renewable gases such as hydrogen in order to achieve climate targets in a cost-effective manner.
