Practical Seminar

Safety training: Damage limitation for gas fires on gas pipelines

The public gas supply systems are operated to a high safety standard. Nevertheless, damage to natural gas supply systems and fires in buildings with gas installations cannot be ruled out. If natural gas leaks, there is a risk of fire or explosion! Prudent and considered action is crucial here.

In the practical seminar, we improve the level of knowledge about technical interrelationships and preventive safety measures. In addition, we impart the necessary knowledge to act correctly in the event of damage.

Training content

Theory

  • Importance and properties of natural gas
  • Supply systems and their recognisability in the public supply area
  • Origin of gas fires
  • Effects of gas fires using examples
  • Measures in the event of damage – examples of damage
    • Non-burning gas leak in the building
    • Burning gas leak in the building
    • Non-burning gas leak outdoors
    • Burning gas leak outdoors
    • Fire in gas-supplied building without gas leakage
  • Extinguishing gas fires with powder extinguishers

Practice

  • Fuel gas escaping from a defective PE-HD pipe at low pressure
  • Fuel gas leakage from a damaged house inlet in a basement room, ignition of an explosive fuel gas/air mixture in the basement room
  • Hazard demonstration of low combustible gas-air mixtures
  • Outflow of fuel gas from a pipe under high pressure at different pressure levels
  • Demonstration of the influence of different outflow directions
  • Hazard demonstration of careless work on the excavation pit – Outflow of fuel gas from a damaged high-pressure pipe (excavator intervention)
  • Extinguishing a gas fire with a powder extinguisher
