What we do
The DBI-Group provides research, development, engineering, consulting, testing and training services for gas, hydrogen and energy technologies. Its activities cover the value chain from production and storage to transport, distribution and end-use applications.
DBI Gas- und Umwelttechnik GmbH combines industry-oriented research and development with engineering, consulting and technical services. DBI – Gastechnologisches Institut gGmbH Freiberg conducts fundamental and applied research, operates an accredited test laboratory and provides professional training.
Our departments
Gas Production & Gas Storage
The Gas Production & Gas Storage department conducts research and development on oil and gas production, underground gas storage, deep geothermal energy and hydrogen underground storage. Its work includes technologies for balancing gas demand as well as research into hydrogen and CO2 underground storage.
Gas Grids & Gas Facilities
The Gas Grids & Gas Facilities department focuses on the safe and efficient transport and distribution of natural gas, biogas, hydrogen and carbon dioxide. Its work includes gas network planning and modelling, plant engineering, emissions, life cycle assessments and the transformation of gas infrastructure.
Gas Utilization
The Gas Utilization department works on customer-side energy and heat supply, from gas installations to domestic, commercial and industrial applications. Its activities include research on the fuel flexibility of combustion systems and the optimization of energy-intensive processes.
Gas Processing Technology
The Gas Processing Technology department focuses on hydrogen production and synthesis processes. Its activities include feasibility studies, experimental investigations, process development and engineering for process plants.
Gas Chemistry & Gas Treatment
The Gas Chemistry & Gas Treatment department analyses gas quality along the supply chain and supports the transfer of new developments into gas supply. Its activities include gas treatment, odorization, analytics and laboratory services.
Energy Supply Systems
The Energy Supply Systems department works on biogas technology, maintenance and safety as well as feasibility studies and GIS analyses for electricity and heat supply solutions.
DVGW – Test Laboratory Energy
The DVGW Energy Test Laboratory is accredited in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 and carries out type examinations for gas appliances, equipments and other energy-related products in accordance with applicable standards.
Technical Services & Developments
The Technical Services & Developments department connects research and development with testing expertise in the gas sector. It develops test methods, test benches and test series and provides technical support for production-related tasks.
Training Center Gas
The Training Center Gas provides practice-oriented training for energy suppliers, civil engineering companies and emergency services on the safe handling of flammable gases. Practical exercises include scenarios involving gas leaks, gas fires and hydrogen-related safety situations.
